Just for fun, I came up with a list of characteristics that might apply to you as a writer. Some are serious, some are humorous. Enjoy!
You know you’re a writer when:
You have more pens, pencils, notebooks and sticky notes than an office supply store.
You email a writer friend about a character in your novel and your friend’s husband thinks something’s wrong with a real person.
You trip over piles of books on the floor during the night.
You fall asleep with a book or magazine in your hand.
You start talking about someone and that someone isn’t real, except as a character in your work in progress.
You’re at a party or other social event and you’d rather talk to your characters than the people you’re with.
You zone out into a fictitious setting that you can’t wait to sit down somewhere quiet and write about.
Your dream is to win the Pulitzer.
You have a strong desire to travel to new places to record details for your latest project or book.
You have a photographer take headshots for the back cover of your book in case it gets published soon.
You soak up writing magazines and then can’t wait to apply what you’ve learned to your current assignment.
You like the click-clack sound of a manual typewriter, and even collect them.
You own as many books as a small book store and have a hard time parting with any.
After some time away from writing or starting something new, you miss your characters like old friends.
You feel lucky to take your work anywhere and work whatever hours you like, and sometimes work in your pajamas.
