Advice for Writing

How many books, articles, blog posts, etc. can a writer read about writing advice? I believe that is a rhetorical question. Between the 4 of us here at PaddleCreekWriters the number is unbelievable.

Writing is a solitary activity punctuated with flights of imagination and often drowned in sheer boredom of being in your own company. Enter the Writer’s group. Definition: A gathering of whacked out counterparts on a mission to do everything but write. As a group, we Paddle Creek Writers, have that last part nailed.

It’s a Two Year Old!

It is a fabulous thing to stop for a moment and celebrate an achievement. That is what we are doing this month!

Two and Counting…

 

Two years ago, as I pressed the “publish” button and sent my first Paddlecreek article into cyberspace, my hands were shaking. It’s scary to put your thoughts out in public. Well, some things never change, as my heart will beat a little faster when I push the “publish” button for this column these many months later. It’s an overwhelming and heady feeling to think we can communicate with like minded people that we haven’t met…yet. Happy Anniversary to us!!!!

There is no Competition …

I read this quote the other day, it did not have a source:

There is no competition. No one else can be me.

Isn’t that awesome? I love it.

Things they are a’changin!

I’m moving. It is weird to say it, but I am. My husband and I are heading to the lovely state of Nevada in 11 days!

It’s all just fodder … ?

I love what Bev said in the last post that everything is fodder for writing. Whether something is interesting, inspiring, terrifying, sad, thought-provoking, or just plain facts that need to be shared; it can be material for the writer.

That being said, how the writer chooses to relay that information makes ALL the difference.

HAIL AND FAREWELL

     Did I tell you that my friend is moving? Not just a down the street and over two blocks move. It’s a pack-the-china-carefully, hit the highway, and drive across the country move. And I am not happy. In all truth, of course, it isn’t about me. It’s about my friend and the enormity of what lies ahead for her. But in the nitty-gritty of life, it is about me, because I am going to be left behind to miss her.

One topic that surfaces at every writer conference, writer retreat, writing meeting, writer get-to-gether, writing book, and every other writer event you can think of, is point of view.

Writing Weekend Part 2

We are not certain how many retreat weekends we have taken, and we are not sure how many are in our future with some serious life changes happening to a couple of us; but we have grown by them and treasured them. And we have been super productive each time.
