On schedule, my phone began beeping at 8 this morning. “Blog post due.” I groan and do a mental check. I groan again. Not one gear jerks into motion. Not one synapse fires. English runs up the white flag and throws up its hands in surrender. Language-less and feeling empty-headed, I begin my day by dragging a circuit around my house. Continue reading

An Ode to Swamps
Doesn’t blogging sound like something a swamp dweller would have to do to travel from one mucky place to another? Put one rubber-footed boot down and the “mud too thick to drink and too thin to plow” would make a splooshing sound. Pull the other foot out and it makes a burping, sucking sound as it tries to pull the rubber boot off. Continue reading
Blogging on about Reviews
“Blog, BLOG, Blog, blog” bleeped my phone at eight o’clock this morning, warning me I have a blog post due today. Great! I thought, only it didn’t come out an excited great but more like a sarcastic-couldn’t-I-put-any-more-angst-in-it kind of great. (Being a writer encourages the sarcastic bend I am forever struggling into straightness. I think of it as blogging on and on.) Continue reading

Confession time: I HAVE NOT WANTED TO BE PRODUCTIVE FOR AGES!
Ok, that is off my chest. I wish I was being dramatic; but, alas, I am not. I have been struggling with it so badly.
Today I thought I would pull myself up by my bootstraps (except that I am wearing flats) and get in gear. I am beginning another personal blog regarding a line of my children’s ministry products. To that end, I needed to go through my stash of articles on children’s ministry and see if I can re-purpose a few. Continue reading
Once again…..Heeeeere’s Willie!!!!
A few months ago I introduced you to my beagle, Willie. He’s a rambunctious creature, stubborn and sweet—sugar and spice as they used to say. He, like most of us, has his faults, but we chalk them up to personality disorder (probably a result of feeding him table food) and move on. Continue reading
To Be Continued … (part 2)
Part 2 of our Round Robin project, by Pat Meyers
“I actually think I am figuring this out,” I announced to Violet two days after the all-blue incident. “The first day he was in white and bought an old copy of Pride and Prejudice with a white cover. The next visit he bought a rare edition of Alice in Wonderland in a blue cover, wearing blue, driving a blue Prius.
“And this helps us figure this out, how?” Asked the impertinent Violet. Continue reading
A New Year…and A New Us!
Hello there!
Michelle here from Paddle Creek Writers. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas season and are off to a great start in the new year. I am looking forward to what the writing year will bring; including getting my second novel out.
Beating Writer’s Blech
Words stringing into sentences, sentences stringing into paragraphs and paragraphs stringing into chapters. That is writing at its best, which produces a novel. What happens when the writing of words equals the backspacing of words? Writer’s blech. When I can write, I can write volumes on that. Continue reading
Words! Words! Words!
My growing up years in North Dakota were idyllic in the sense that our parents more or less left my sister and me on our own. It was the time in history when kids played outside from dawn to dusk without interference from adults. A quick peanut butter and jelly sandwich at noon and we were good to go for the rest of the day. We were sent into the world with certain instructions however. “Wear shoes!” “Stay away from the river.” “Don’t chase strange dogs.” “Leave your sister alone.” “Be home by dark.” Continue reading
Blog On
Blog, blog, blog. Blah, blah, blah. This is what is going through my mind sitting here trying to come up with a blog post. Post. Post-traumatic, fence post, bang my head on a post, post-date, postpartum, parcel post, post mortem. That’s it! This blog post is DOA. “What was that, Bev?”
Bev says I have to be positive and encouraging because Paddlecreek is all about uplifting fellow writers. Being positive is somewhat against my knee jerk reaction while under stress, but I am all about being encouraging. So here goes: Continue reading
