As of today, the 23rd of December, 2015, I have officially seen it all.
I drove into a perfect parking place at the local St. Louis Bread Company, and decided to finish listening to a wonderful Christmas carol playing on JOY FM. We were in the midst of what we used to call a “gully washer” in my home state, and I hoped that by staying in the car a few minutes more maybe the rain would slow down a bit and I wouldn’t have to regret the fact that I forgot my umbrella at home. If you’ve stopped by Paddlecreek before, you know it is the collaboration of four writers. Four very different people who have grown close as they have struggled with the in’s and out’s of this thing we love and, at times, don’t love—writing.
We started out over ten years ago. Over coffee, we compared styles, asked questions, laughed (alot), and put hundreds of words down on paper. We wrote a “Prompt” each time we got together (back then, we were the Bowler Road Writers) and read it OUT LOUD. That took courage, because writing as fast as we could for 30 minutes and then sharing our thoughts with each other wasn’t always pretty. Continue reading
Who are your favorite characters? Why? If you love Snoopy, is it because of his great imagination? Or Superman, because he saves people and has vulnerabilities? How about Cinderella who overcomes a nasty stepmother and gets rescued by the prince?
Sitting here this morning with my fingers on the keyboard, I ask myself, “Self, if you had to choose between Microsoft Word and Scrivener for use when writing, which one would it be?” Self sits as if frozen for what seems like minutes and then, from the recesses of her coffee-begging brain, a thought stirs and a light bulb (why are those still the outdated incandescent?) flickers on and grows brighter.
Aha! A thought is born!
